13-year-old Cody Alicea made national headlines recently when school officials at Denair Middle School ordered him to take down the American flag on the back of his bike while he was on school property. Apparently “some students” had been complaining about the flag. Cody had just been trying to honor military veterans such as his grandfather Robert. Well, it turns out that Cody’s story struck a major chord with veterans across the United States. As Cody rode his bike to school on Monday, he was accompanied by hundreds of other bikes and motorcycles. After arriving at Denair Middle School, Cody and his patriotic escort recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem. It was an extremely emotional day for everyone involved, and it showed that there are still Americans out there that are willing to stand up for the U.S. flag.
The following is a video news report about Monday’s events….
Fortunately, this story has a very happy ending. The school has changed its mind and now Cody can ride to school every day proudly displaying his American flag.
When the day comes when a 13-year-old kid in America cannot put an American flag on his bike and ride to school we will all be in deep, deep trouble.
A big thanks should go out to all of those who rode with Cody Alicea today. In every generation there will be challenges to freedom, and in every generation there must be those who are willing to stand up and fight for it.
