Yellen’s Healthy Economy Is Absurd- Here Is Why

Hell To Pay

Behind the Curve

Economic nonsense comes a dime a dozen.  For example, Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen “think(s) we have a healthy economy now.”  She even told the University of Michigan’s Ford (Read More....)

The Art and Pseudoscience of Monetary Policy

Definitely Maybe

Everyone’s got a plan for sale these days.  In fact, there are so many plans out there we cannot keep up with them all.  Eat celery sticks and lose weight.  Think and grow rich.  Stocks for the long run.  Naturally, plans like these run a dime a dozen.

Good plans, however, are scarcer than hen’s teeth.  You can’t possibly see them no matter how closely you look.  They simply don’t exist.

This was the case on Capitol Hill this week, where money and politics collided at the biannual monetary policy gala.  Despite all the hubbub, no good plans were offered.  What’s more, on first glance, no bad plans were offered too.

When Fed Chair Janet Yellen’s testimony was finally over, Congress knew less about the Fed’s plans than when it started.  For instance, when asked if the (Read More....)

Is Janet Yellen a Jenny Ass?

Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen’s at the top of her game.  She knows exactly what to do.  She’s a PhD economist, after all.  Her various affiliations with the Fed go back nearly 40 years.  She knows what the correct Fed response is for every situation.  She knows all.

But Yellen has her work cut out for her.  Attempting to pilot an economy via monetary policy is not for a feeble mind.  There are some answers that aren’t to be found in a textbook.  There are other answers that aren’t present in (Read More....)

What to Buy as the Great Unraveling Gets Underway

Economic Prism

The Federal Reserve’s open market committee meeting is taking place today and tomorrow. Central to their discussion are the two words “considerable time.” Have you ever heard something so nonsensical? What gives?

It all started several months ago when Janet Yellen said these words mean six months. So, now, if the Fed drops the words considerable time from its press release tomorrow this is assumed to be code that they will begin raising the federal funds rate in exactly six months. If you recall, the federal funds rate has been near zero for the last six years.

Tomorrow we’ll discover if the era of zero interest rate policy is over. We watch intently for the market’s reaction and secondary convulsions. Naturally, here at the Economic Prism we are eager for the ZIRP era to be over…it never should’ve started to begin with.

In fact, we find the Federal Reserve, and their cheap money policies, to cause more economic harm than good. For one thing, they’ve led us to the place where (Read More....)

Janet Yellen’s Big Surprise

Federal Reserveby MN Gordon Economic Prism

More evidence was offered over the weekend validating our prediction for 2014. If you recall, at the beginning of the year we gazed deep into our crystal ball and saw a vivid image of the earth not getting warmer…but cooler. So far this guess has been right on the money.

“Pittsburgh is dealing with one of the coldest summers in history, and it’s having an effect on the trees,” reported CBSPittsburgh. “Friday morning temperatures fell into the 40s in Western Pennsylvania.

“Meteorologists say these cold temperatures are leading to trees changing colors in the middle of August. ‘“This is extraordinary for August, (Read More....)

Janet Yellen’s Unwise and Inhumane Policies

Janet Yellenby MN Gordon Economic Prism

Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen says the 0.4 percent May CPI increase is noise. Perhaps she is right and it is noise. But just what type of noise is it?

Is it the type of noise to ignore…like a street vagrant’s mutterings of gibberish? Or is it the type of noise, like a fire alarm, telling us to get out because our home is about to go up in smoke? The difference is stark.

Though Yellen didn’t elaborate, we assume she means the CPI noise is something to ignore. That price inflation isn’t a real concern. Here at the Economic Prism we think otherwise.

Regardless of whether it shows up in the CPI, the price of just about everything that’s needed to live is going up. In fact, according to (Read More....)
